PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically shift and move a rolling stand so that a core of the caliber can be easily aligned with a path line to a caliber to be used.SOLUTION: A reference plate 12 is attached to a roll guide 5 mounted to one caliber 22. An opposing distance X in the axial direction of a pair of rolls 21 with the reference plate 12 is measured by a laser range finder 10 provided in a non-interacting position for shifting and moving a rolling stand F. Based on information of the opposing distance X in the axial direction with the reference plate 12 acquired with the laser range finder 10, the rolling stand F is shifted and moved so that the value of the range information X coincides with a preset value.
