1. A method of detonating an explosive device that includes a blasting cap, the blasting cap including a metallic casing and a lead wire, the method comprising the steps of:
in a device, generating a high voltage electrical potential of at least thirty thousand volts having at least five joules of energy; and discharging the high voltage electrical potential as an electric discharge into the earth, wherein the current path to ground of the electric discharge includes at least one item selected from the group consisting of: the lead wire and the metallic casing to generate a discharge spark inside of the blasting cap between the metallic casing and the lead wire, whereby the blasting cap detonates the explosive device. |
