Bit-interleaving for DVB-T2 LDPC codes

A transmitting apparatus and method, and a receiving apparatus and method are provided. The transmitting apparatus includes: an LDPC encoder configured to perform encoding on data including information bits; and a bit interleaver configured to perform interleaving on the information bits and parity bits generated by the LDPC encoding, wherein the bit interleaver is configured to classify the generated parity bits into a plurality of groups and write the information bits and the generated parity bits in a plurality of columns in a column direction such that parity bits included in a predetermined group among the plurality of groups are arranged in predetermined positions (e.g. in the same row) in the plurality of columns, to perform the interleaving. The used LDPC codes are those of the DVB-T2 standard and the parity bits belonging to the predetermined group are parity bits that are arranged at a preset interval (a q-interval) within the code sequence and thus have, due to the structure of the DVB-T2 LDPC code, low correlations amongst each other. Then parity bits within one predetermined group having low correlations are included in the same modulation symbol to be mapped on the same OFDM symbol.
