507,311. Covering electric cables &c. by extrusion. HARTUNG - JACHMANN AKT.-GES. Jan. 21, 1939, No. 2195. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1938. [Class 87 (ii)] Relates to apparatus for.applying sheaths to electric cables and other cores and of the kind wherein the core passes through a stationary socket 5 on which is mounted a conveyer worm 8 adapted to force rubber or other plastic material into a moulding-chamber 6 and thence on to the core. In order to prevent material in the bearing between the worm and -the socket from solidifying, means is provided to flush the bearing with plastic material moving in the same direction as that in which the worm 8 forces the material into the chamber 6. As shown, the stationary socket 5 is provided with a worm 9 of opposite pitch to that of the worm 8, and apertures 10, 12 in the worm 8 communicate with the bearing worm 9. Plastic material entering the bearing is thus moved downwardly by the rotation of the worm 8 on the worm 9 and passes into the chamber 6. Packing 11 may be provided at the upper end of the bearing.
|
