A system and method of determining the authenticity of an event associated with a first location using a mobile communication device, comprising: providing at a server apparatus information on the first location; transmitting from the server apparatus to the device the information on the first location; providing at the mobile device information on the location of the device; comparing, at the device, the received information on the first location with the information on the location of the device thereby enabling determination of the authenticity of the event; transmitting from the mobile device information from the comparison; and receiving at the server apparatus the information from the comparison. A second system and method of determining the authenticity of an event associated with a first location using a mobile communication device is also provided, as follows. Information on the first location is provided at a server apparatus, and information on the location of the device is provided at the mobile device. Detection of when the information on the location of the device indicates that the device is within a predetermined geographical area occurs at the mobile device, and information indicating that the device is within the predetermined geographical area is transmitted from the mobile device. In response receiving at the server apparatus information from the mobile device indicating that the device is within the predetermined geographical area, determination of the authenticity of the event by comparison of the received information on the first location with the predetermined geographical area is enabled. |
