A foot-borne apparatus possesses a spacer/spring assembly that can be oriented in two orientations. The first orientation has the spacer/spring assembly under the sole of the user's shoe in such a way that the spacer/spring assembly acts against the ground for enhanced locomotion. The second orientation positions the spacer/spring assembly away from the sole of the shoe, enabling ordinary use of the shoe.
