PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of producing a high-purity biodegradable polyoxyethylene derivative on an industrial scale by using a polyoxyethylene compound containing polylactic acid at the terminal.SOLUTION: There is obtained a biodegradable polyoxyethylene derivative having a carboxyl group at the terminal by reacting a biodegradable polyoxyethylene compound with succinic anhydride or glutaric anhydride at 60 to 120°C in the presence of sodium acetate using toluene as a solvent.
