PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic material detector for precisely detecting a moving magnetic material using a ferromagnetic thin film magnetic resistance element.SOLUTION: A magnetic material detector includes long-sized magnets 12 and 13, and ferromagnetic thin film magnetic resistance elements 23 and 24. The respective magnets 12 and 13 extend parallel to a Y-axis and are magnetized in a Z-axis direction in directions opposite to each other. The ferromagnetic thin film magnetic resistance elements 23 and 24 are formed so as to include linear parts extended almost along the Y-axis direction on a flat surface of a substrate 22 arranged in a magnetic flux path between the magnets 12 and 13 and to change a value of a resistance relative to a change in a magnetic field in a direction orthogonal to the Y-axis direction in the flat surface of the substrate 22. The ferromagnetic thin film magnetic resistance elements 23 and 24 are applied with a bias magnetic field by the magnets 12 and 13, whose intensity is smaller than a saturation magnetic field of the ferromagnetic thin film magnetic resistance elements 23 and 24 and whose direction is orthogonal to the Y-axis direction in the flat surface of the substrate 22. |
