PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a swing detection device of a hanging attachment and a control method for the same capable of appropriately detecting swing of the hanging attachment even when the same does not have a power source as is the case with a crab bucket.SOLUTION: A swing detection device 1 comprises: a laser range finder 3 installed on a trolley 2; at least two targets 5 installed on a hanging attachment 4; and a control device. The swing detection device 1 has configurations to calculate: a difference between a predetermined inter-target horizontal distance Wof the two targets 5 and an apparent inter-target horizontal distance (W+W) of the two targets 5 measured by the laser range finder 3; and a swing speed of the hanging attachment 4 in a horizontal direction from the difference in the horizontal distances and time required for the laser range finder 3 to measure the apparent inter-target horizontal distance (W+W) of the two targets 5.
