PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling control device that can appropriately select an optimal traveling mode in a vehicle that can selectively execute an intermittent driving traveling mode and a steady traveling mode.SOLUTION: In a traveling control device, control means starts to make a determination whether to execute an intermittent driving traveling mode or execute a steady traveling mode when an accelerator opening is kept constant for a predetermined period, calculates first driving force required for setting vehicle speed to upper limit vehicle speed when the intermittent driving traveling mode is executed on the basis of required driving force during the determination, and selects and executes either of the intermittent driving traveling mode or the steady traveling mode in accordance with a comparison result between the first driving force and second driving force that causes thermal efficiency of an internal combustion engine to be maximized. Thus in terms of efficiency, an optimal traveling mode out of the intermittent driving traveling mode and the steady traveling mode can be appropriately selected. |
