A radio communication system comprises: a first radio base station having a plurality of antenna elements; and pieces of user equipment. When each piece of user equipment is initially connected, the first radio base station applies a plurality of different pre-codings to downlink user common signals to be transmitted to each of all pieces of user equipment locating in the area of the first radio base station and near the area thereof, and transmits the downlink user common signals, while switching the pre-codings to be applied thereto. The piece of user equipment selects a desired pre-coding from the downlink user common signals to which the plurality of different pre-codings have been applied, and notifies the first radio base station of the selection result. The first radio base station then pre-codes, by use of a pre-coding vector based on the selection result, a data signal for the piece of user equipment and transmits the data signal thereto.
