The purpose of the present invention is to provide a light source device and a projector capable of acquiring an appropriate type of the light source. A light source device (5) includes a light source for emitting light; and a light source housing (6) which houses the light source. The light source housing (6) has an attachment section (624) on the surface of the light source housing (6) to allow a conductive member (64) to be attached thereto, and the conductive member (64) is attached to the attachment section (624) in accordance with the types of the light source. Such a configuration allows for the acquisition of an appropriate type of the light source in accordance with the presence or absence of the conductive member electrically connected to the terminal of a device to which the light source device is attached, thereby enabling the acquisition of an appropriate type of the light source even when the light source device (5) is subjected to elevated temperatures.
