Chemoattractant polypeptide compounds for progenitor cells and compositions and drug products comprising the compounds are provided herein. Methods for attracting progenitor cells to a location in or on a patient also are provided along with methods of growing and repairing bone.

1. An isolated and purified polypeptide consisting of an amino acid sequence that:
a) consist of or consist essentially of sequence IAG-R1-GR2-EK-R3-GG-R4, where R1 is Ile or Val; R2 is Gly or Ala, R3 is Ser or Ala and R4 is Phe or Tyr (SEQ ID NO: 3), e.g., IAGVGGEKSGGF (SEQ ID NO: 1); the sequence GPVGPSGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 2); or the sequence GPVGPHGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 7), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of thereof; b) consist of or consist essentially of a sequence having 75% or greater identity with IAGVGGEKSGGF (SEQ ID NO: 1); a sequence having greater than 90% identity with GPVGPSGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 2), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of thereof; c) consist of or consist essentially one of the sequences IAGVGGEKSGGF (SEQ ID NO: 1) or GPVGPSGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 2), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; or d) consist of 12-50 amino acids comprising: the sequence IAG-R1-GR2-EK-R3-GG-R4, where R1 is Ile or Val; R2 is Gly or Ala, R3 is Ser or Ala and R4 is Phe or Tyr (SEQ ID NO: 3); a sequence having 75% or greater identity with IAGVGGEKSGGF (SEQ ID NO: 1); a sequence having greater than 90% identity with GPVGPSGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 2); the sequence IAGVGGEKSGGF (SEQ ID NO: 1); the sequence GPVGPSGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 2); or the sequence GPVGPHGPPGK (SEQ ID NO: 7), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
