[Problem] To provide a head check device and head check method for a portable printer in which the printing head (thermal head (22)) is reliably checked before the portable printer is moved, preventing problems in printing operations due to problems with the printing head (22). [Solution] Focusing on detecting connection and disconnection of an AC adapter (31) for charging a rechargeable battery (8), or on the charging state of the rechargeable battery (8), and performing checks on the printing head (22), this head check device is characterized by being provided with an adapter connection terminal (10) which connects to an AC adapter (31) for connecting to an external power source and charging a rechargeable battery (8), and a control unit (13) which detects connection and disconnection of the AC adapter (31) to the adapter connection terminal (10), wherein the control unit (13) checks the heat-generating elements of the printer head (22) upon detecting that the AC adapter (31) has been pulled out from the adapter connection terminal (10). |
