[Classes 44 and 65 (i)] A combined lock and anti-rattle device for a vehicle door comprises a spring-loaded latch 20 having cam surfaces 41, 42 that abut cam surfaces 49, 50 on levers 43, 44 drawn together by a spring 47 and carrying dovetail elements 15, 16. When the latch is withdrawn, the elements 15, 16 move towards each other to facilitate entry into the dovetail part of the frame and when the latch is extended, the cam surfaces force the elements 15, 16 into engagement with the other dovetail part. The elements 15, 16 may both be arranged to one side of the latch and the movements relative to the latch may be reversed to suit the dovetail arrangement. The latch may be operated by either the follower 29 or 30 and the follower 29 has a projection 27 that can be moved to block the follower 30. Notches 35, 36 in the follower 29 are engaged by the spring 34 to prevent inadvertent actuation. |
