A fastening device 1 comprises a pair of separable fastener elements 2, 3 each comprising a layer of magnetic material 4, 5 that causes attraction between the two elements 2, 3. One of the fastener elements 2 has a second surface comprising a plurality of closely spaced hooking elements 6, while the other fastener element 3 has a second surface comprising a layer of loop elements 7. The peeling apart of hook and loop fasteners creates a distinctive sound which may be undesirable in certain circumstances such as military use, hunting or bird-watching. In use, the fastening device may be attached to a hook and loop fastener providing a means of adapting existing hook and loop fasteners to magnetic fasteners when used in connection with garments, cases, bags, or holders. |
