<p>A chip for electrospray ionisation comprises multiple spray nozzles on a chip base 32, which may be arranged in a two-dimensional array. Each nozzle is surrounded by a plurality of sheath gas nozzles. A counter electrode 30 with an attracting voltage with a plurality of openings is located opposite the chip base 32 and shared by all the spray nozzles, such that each opening is opposite a respective spray nozzle. The sheath gas flow is shaped by the openings such that the sheath gas envelops the droplets and ions of the spray jet generated by the spray nozzle and prevent them from discharging on the surfaces of the openings. Means for achieving uniform spraying using a self regulating flow and for supplying the spray nozzles as simultaneously as possible are disclosed. The ion-entraining gas clouds of each individual spray nozzle can be transferred into a vacuum system by means of a multichannel inlet plate.</p> |
