[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] A high voltage supply is derived by means of a backcoupled valve, the valve having an amplification factor less than unity and having in the control electrode circuit a time constant circuit across which a high unidirectional voltage is produced by rectification of the generated oscillations. Fig. 4 shows the circuit the valve being back-coupled by coils 14, 16 the latter having a high ratio of inductance to resistance and including a time constant circuit 17, 18 in the circuit of the control electrode 13. The anode may be an electron permeable electrode interposed between the control electrode and the cathode as shown or the anode 27 and control electrode 26 may be on opposite sides of a cathode 23 comprising an aligned row of indirectly heated tubular elements with a common cathode lead 24, Fig. 3. In the arrangement in Fig. 4 a saw-tooth voltage is also obtained the valve having an auxiliary control electrode 30 to which synchronizing signals are applied. In this arrangement the circuit 17, 18 is given a relatively short time constant so that a saw-tooth voltage may be derived from terminals 32 whilst an impedance network 33 coupled through isolating impedance 34 enables a high voltage direct current supply to be obtained at terminals 19. In this arrangement the valve 10<SP>1</SP> blocks after a few cycles determined by the time constant of circuit 17, 18 and is triggered into operation by the synchronizing pulse.</p> |
