PURPOSE: An extract of rice, rice bran, or rice husks is provided to be used as a natural anti-histamine agent, to prevent or treat allergic rhinitis, inflammatory bowel diseases, asthma, bronchitis, vomiting, gastric and duodenal ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux, sleep disorder, anxiety, and depression without side effects. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for suppressing activity of a histamine receptor contains an extract of rice, rice bran, or rice husks as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition is used for preventing or treating allergic rhinitis, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, bronchitis, vomiting, gastric and duodenal ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux, sleep disorder, anxiety, and depression. The extract is prepared by using water, an organic solvent, or a mixture thereof. The organic solvent is selected among low carbon number alcohol, hexane, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and diethyl ether.
