[Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXXVI] In the treatment of bearings and parts having anti-friction bearing surfaces a lead alloy surface, e.g. a lead bronze, lead copper or lead silver alloy, is etched electrolytically or chemically, preferably by the process described in Specification 547,799, and a final thin coating of lead or lead alloy is applied to the etched surface to constitute the final bearing surface. The final coating may be sprayed on, or cast centrifugally on to the etched surface or may be applied electrolytically being firmly bonded on to the lead alloy surface which may be applied before treatment to a steel backing. The coating has a thickness of 0.0005-0.001 inch. |
