A refrigerator (10) is provided, including a cabinet (11) formed with at least one refrigerated compartment, and a door (12) pivotally mounted to the cabinet (11). A vented exhaust conduit (42) is provided at least partially within an interior (44) of the door (12) and defines a pathway (46) in fluid communication with an environment exterior of the cabinet (11). A water heater (70) includes a heating element (72) located at least partially within the vented exhaust conduit (42) and configured to heat water supplied from the refrigerator (10), wherein heat generated by said heating element (72) can escape through the pathway (46) of the vented exhaust (42) to said environment exterior of the cabinet (11). A hot water dispenser (30) is positioned on the door (12) that is configured to dispense hot water supplied from the water heater (70) into a receiver vessel (92). A method of dispensing hot water is also provided. The method utilizes at least two distinct, user-initiated steps to permit the dispensing of hot water.
