Provided is a method with which it is possible to produce lavandulal with high yield while producing a small amount of lavandulal isomers as byproducts. Disclosed is a method for producing lavandulal by reacting an acetal compound represented by general formula (I) with 3-methyl-1-buten-3-ol in the presence of an acid catalyst, the method being characterized by: adding, to a mixed solution including the acid catalyst, the acetal compound represented by general formula (I), and at least a portion (3-methyl-1-buten-3-ol (a)) of the 3-methyl-1-buten-3-ol to be used, the remainder (3-methyl-1-buten-3-ol (b)) of the 3-methyl-1-buten-3-ol to be used; and maintaining the temperature of the mixed solution at 110°C or higher.
