Disclosed are motion prediction encoding and decoding method and apparatus of a video. The motion prediction encoding method of a video includes: dividing a picture in a maximum encoding unit; dividing the maximum encoding unit into prediction units according to a plurality of division modes indicating a division form of the maximum encoding unit; acquiring a motion vector of a prediction unit smaller than a predetermined size by performing a motion prediction with respect to a prediction unit smaller than the predetermined size among prediction units included in the maximum encoding unit; and acquiring a motion vector of a prediction unit larger than the predetermined size using a motion vector of a prediction unit smaller than the predetermined size.
