The invention relates to an energy storage power plant (1) for harvesting electric energy, said power plant also being suitable for converting electric energy into thermal energy. The thermal energy can be temporarily stored in at least two thermal stores (10) until demanded and can be retrieved in order to increase the energy content of water in a water circuit (2) upon demand. The energy storage power plant comprises: - the at least two thermal stores (10), each of which comprises at least one converting device (15) that allows electric energy to be directly or indirectly converted into thermal energy, said at least two thermal stores (10) being thermally chargeable by temporarily storing said thermal energy, wherein one thermal store (10) is provided for storing sensible heat and one thermal store (10) is provided for storing latent heat; and - at least one energy generating unit (20) which can be operated using the water in the water circuit (2), the energy content of said water having been increased by the temporary storage of thermal energy, in order to generate electric energy when operated.
