PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having cover glass formed with a touch sensor with high safety and high end face strength and a method for manufacturing the display device.SOLUTION: There is provided a display device having a display panel and a touch panel attached to the front face of the display panel. The touch panel includes: cover glass having a first surface opposed to the front face of the display panel and a second surface on the side opposite to the first surface; and a touch sensor formed on the first surface of the cover glass. The cover glass is chemically reinforced glass, and the surface compression stress of the cover glass is ranging from 600 to 900 MPa, the compression stress layer depth of the cover glass is ranging from 5 to 20 μm, and the cover glass has a clean cut surface which is almost vertical to the first surface and a chamfered surface formed at the edge of the second surface.
