PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing a developer from overflowing from a retention container, even when the developer in the retention container is incorrectly determined to be less than a predetermined amount.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 3; developing means 7; a storage container 38 that stores a developer to be used in the developing means; a retention container 163 that temporarily retains the developer supplied from the storage container, and is provided with an exhaust port exhausting the developer temporarily stored therein to the developing means; first conveying means 167 for conveying the developer from the storage container to the retention container; second conveying means 161B for conveying the developer from the retention container to the developing means; and first developer amount detection means for detecting the amount of the developer in the retention container. The image forming apparatus further includes first control means 100 for controlling the drive of the first conveying means on the basis of a result of the detection by the first developer amount detection means and information related to the drive of the second conveying means. |
