<p>A vehicle door lock device comprising a housing 110, preferably of two halves of casings 111, 112, which house a latching and locking mechanisms of the door lock. A resin protective cover 120 includes an upper portion 120a and a side portion 120b extending downward; the protective shroud 120 covering the housing at the upper and at side, preferably the interface between two halves of housing. A covering portion 115 extending from the housing covers an end of the protective cover inhibiting removal of the cover by tool of a thief. Protective cover 120 may be pivotally mounted to the housing, the cover including a shaft (123, fig.5) contained within recess formed by protruding arm of covering portion (115a, 115b).
