The present invention provides a method for producing a single-piece or multi-piece rigid insert which can be included in ophthalmic lens or includes ophthalmic lens, wherein the rigid insert can be formed through a thermoforming process of a thin-sheet material. A single-piece circular rigid insert can serve a function of providing a template for a printed pattern included in ophthalmic lens. A single piece full rigid insert can serve a function of polarizing light or filtering light based on the properties of a material used for forming the insert. A multi-piece rigid insert can include an activating and a power supply element. Further, the present invention includes an apparatus for realizing the method as well as ophthalmic lens and an insert which are formed to have a thermoformed rigid inset piece.
