Use of portable electonic devices with head-mounted display devices

The present invention provides a portable electronic device 200 comprising a first input for receiving a first image signal from a camera 110 of a head-mounted display (HMD) device 100, a second input for receiving a position signal from a position sensor 230 in proximity to the portable electronic device, for example a GPS sensor and a third input for receiving a first orientation signal from an orientation sensor 130 of the HMD device. These signals are then used by a processor for running an augmented reality (AR) application 30 to generate a data overlay 32 of the first image signal based on the position signal and the first orientation signal. This data overlay 32 is transmitted to a display 120 of said head-mounted display device.
