A spinal implant assembly 10 has an intervertebral device 20 configured to be installed in a spinal disc space, the intervertebral device having a head component 20b and a body component 20a, and a coupling body 40 for receiving and coupling the head component and a spinal rod 30. Once assembled the head component and the coupling body can pivot with respect to each other. Preferably the head is spherical and is releasably attached to the body via a threaded connection. The coupling body may have a vertical slot 44,45 to receive the rod which sits on a contoured washer 60; the slots may be supported by an external compression ring 80 and the rod is secured by a locking screw 70 engaging with a thread 41 at the top of the body. The rod may have enlarged ends (131, 132 figure 5). The assembly can be used in small animals. |
