A transport tunnel system comprising a pair of side-by-side tunnels 1, 2 for the passage of vehicles 11, one tunnel having a first working direction 3 for vehicles and the other tunnel having the opposite working direction 4; and one or more baffles 17, 18, 19 disposed in a first one of the tunnels for constricting the effective cross-section of that tunnel. The baffles are arranged so that for equal vehicle movements in both tunnels there will be a substantially greater air flow in the tunnels in the working direction of the first one of the tunnels than in the second one of the tunnels. No baffles may be placed in the second one of the tunnels. Also disclosed is a method of enhancing air flow in a transport tunnel system comprising disposing a plurality of baffles in the tunnel. |
