PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide effective methods of treating mitochondrial damage, such as: Friedreich's ataxia; Leber's hereditary optic neuropath; myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episode (MELAS); and Kearns-Sayre syndrome.SOLUTION: The present invention provides methods and compositions useful in treating or suppressing mitochondrial damage, such as Friedreich's ataxia; Leber's hereditary optic neuropath; Kearns-Sayre syndrome; and myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episode (MELAS); and useful in modulating energy biomarkers.
