PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a situation in which an image pickup device is locked from an external device to disable buttons of the image pickup device, and the image pickup device is kept locked as a command issuing application on the external device side is put into a sleep mode by an external cause, resulting in the buttons of the image pickup device being stuck disabled.SOLUTION: Provided is an external device for remote-controlling an image pickup device, the external device being configured so as to lock the image pickup device and disable buttons on the image pickup device side before transmitting a photographing setup command to the image pickup device, and to be provided with communication means, display means, input means, and control means, and further provided with sleep event acquisition means for acquiring a sleep event in an application detected by system control means, so that when a sleep event is acquired, the image pickup device is unlocked and the buttons on the image pickup device side are enabled via the communication means before the application goes to a sleep mode. |
