PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power generation device and a power generation method that are capable of suppressing a start-up curent generated at the time of start-up of an induction power generator while suppressing cost.SOLUTION: A power generation device includes: an induction power generator 22; a switch 26 that opens/closes a connection electric path 52 connecting the induction power generator 22 and an electric path 50, through which an AC current of a predetermined frequency flows, to each other; a control part 341 for controlling the opening/closing by the switch 26; and an expander 16 that rotatively drives the induction power generator 22 through supply of a working medium, wherein the control part 341 closes the switch 26 after the working medium is supplied and the expander 16 starts to rotatively drive the induction power generator 22. |
