The present invention, as described above and as further defined by the claims below, provides methods for forming an Ophthalmic Lens that encapsulates a Rigid Insert, wherein the Rigid Insert may be tailored to correct specific astigmatic characteristics of an eye and apparatus for implementing such methods, as well as Ophthalmic Lenses formed with the Rigid Inserts.

1. A method of forming an Ophthalmic Lens with a Rigid Insert, the method comprising:
predosing the front curve mold part with a Reactive Monomer Mixture; placing the Rigid Insert on the Reactive Monomer Mixture; precuring the Reactive Monomer Mixture to fixedly hold the Rigid Insert proximate to the front curve mold, wherein the precuring forms a front curve assembly; postdosing the front curve assembly with the Reactive Monomer Mixture, wherein the predosing and the postdosing amounts are capable of encapsulating the Rigid Insert; placing the back curve mold part proximate to the front curve assembly, wherein the placing forms a front curve and back curve assembly; curing the Reactive Monomer Mixture to form the Ophthalmic Lens; demolding the front curve and back curve assembly; removing the Ophthalmic Lens from the demolded front curve and back curve assembly; and hydrating the Ophthalmic Lens.
