An exemplary method may comprise laying out onto a flat surface (and possibly stacking) plies of composite material, rolling the material onto a mandrel while applying pressure and curing the rolled material.

1. A method of forming a multi-layered composite element, comprising:
pre-stacking a plurality of plies of composite material on a flat surface to form a stacked ply assembly; rolling the stacked ply assembly around a mandrel while applying pressure; and curing the rolled stacked ply assembly; wherein joints between the plies are distributed around a circumference of the rolled stacked ply assembly to prevent overlap.
