The present invention relates to an axial flux electric machine comprising at least one rotor having at least N rotor members 13 spaced on a surface of said rotor, each rotor member 13 comprising a soft ferrous based face; at least one stator 15 juxtaposed and spaced apart from said rotor, said stator 15 including stator members 19, said stator members 19 being spaced apart and in parallel axial relationship to said rotor members 13, each said stator member 19 having a coil axis position which is parallel to the axis of rotation of said rotor; detecting means for detecting the position of said rotor; and a control means receiving a first input from said detecting means for controlling input into selected stator members 19. The use of energy can be significantly enhanced by injecting energy harvested from the collapsing fields of electromagnetic drive components, and then directing said energy from primary-drive coils of the machine into an isolated circuit to power secondary-drive coils of the machine.
