PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor that can reduce loosening of a detecting element and a connecting element by securing appropriate clearances when inserting and arranging the detecting element and the connecting element into an element insertion hole and a terminal insertion hole in a ceramic member while preventing the ceramic member from giving rise to cracks in its corner parts.SOLUTION: In a gas sensor having a detecting elements and a ceramic member, an element insertion hole has a substantially rectangular main element insertion hole 83 surrounded by four sides and an escape hole 85 surrounded by contour lines linking ends of two adjoining two of the four sides of the main element insertion hole 83 and disposed outside the main element insertion hole 83 and communicating with the main element insertion hole 83. The two sides of the main element insertion hole 83 linked to the contour lines of the escape hole 85 do not reach an intersection K1 of the extensions of the two sides, and an area S1 of the escape hole 85 is greater than an area S2 of a triangle surrounded by the extension of the main element insertion hole 83 and a straight line linking the end of the main element insertion hole 83. |
