Provided in an embodiment of the present invention are a method and device for monitoring network performance. The network performance monitoring device records a time when a first network device transmits a first packet to a second network device, that is, a first time, records a time when the first network device receives a response packet for the first packet, that is, a second time, and determines a two-way delay between the first network device and the second network device; and, within a predetermined time, the network performance monitoring device compiles statistics on the number of transmissions of the first packet by the first network device to the second network device, that is, a first count, compiles statistics on the number of retransmitted packets in the first packet, that is, a second count, and determines a packet loss rate from the first network device to the second network device on the basis of the first count and of the second count. Also provided in the present embodiment is a corresponding device. The first packet is a packet of a service flow transmitted by employing a connection-oriented protocol. By means of the method, network load is reduced when measuring network performance. |
