This invention describes Ophthalmic Devices with media inserts that have photonic elements upon or within them by which data can be projected onto a retina. In some embodiments passive ophthalmic devices of various kinds may be formed. Methods and devices for active ophthalmic devices based on photonic based projection systems may also be formed.
