PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique allowing an accurate comparison of the colors of a printed article and a displayed image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus, which outputs, as a displayed image, an image to be compared with a printed article placed on a screen of a display device, comprises: addition means for adding a first background image of a predetermined color to a surrounding of the displayed image; generation means for generating a second background image which is an image of the same color as that of the first background image and constitutes a background of the printed article; and output means for outputting on the display device a displayed image to which the first background image is added and the second background image.
