A lighting device comprises an irradiating unit (10) for emitting laser light (70), a scattering unit (20), and a wavelength converting unit (40). The scattering unit (20) has a main surface mounted so as to intersect with an optical axis of the laser beam (70) and has a light scattering material reflecting the incident laser beam (70) to emit as scattered light (72). The wavelength converting unit (40) is configured to emit wavelength converted light having a longer wavelength than the wavelength of the laser beam (70) from a second surface being opposite to a first surface by absorbing the scattered light (72) which is incident from the first surface. The scattered light is emitted from the second surface by scattering and passing the wavelength converting unit (40). |
