A subject observation system comprises a plurality of primary light sources (5, 6), a wavelength conversion unit (12), an image acquisition unit (3), a mode input unit (13), and a light source unit (2). The wavelength conversion unit (12) wavelength converts a plurality of primary lights having different wavelengths which are respectively emitted from the plurality of primary light sources (1). When an input is made in the mode input unit of a special light observation mode which enhances and displays, among the subjects for observation, a specific subject for observation, the light source unit (2) switches on the plurality of primary light sources in sequence and projects the illumination light in sequence from an aperture of a given site upon the subject for observation. The image acquisition unit (3) acquires a plurality of images for each respective projection upon the subject for observation of the plurality of illumination lights, and generates a special light observation image of the subject for observation on the basis of the plurality of images. |
