The invention relates to a locking and releasing device, which has two parts that can be moved relative to each other, at least one molded body made of a magnetorheological elastomer (MRE), and a magnetic circuit system having at least one element that produces magnetic fields, wherein the at least one molded body is a component of the magnetic circuit system and is designed in such a way that, when a magnetic field is applied or changed, the at least one molded body can deform in such a way that the relative motion of the parts is blocked or released. The invention further relates to a locking and releasing device kit comprising an adaptive locking apparatus according to the invention and additionally at least one element that produces magnetic fields. The invention also relates to a method for the controlled blocking and/or release of parts of a system that can be moved relative to one another using the locking and releasing device and/or the locking and releasing device kit.
