Provided are a medical-image retrieval method, device, and computer program which are capable of using newly X-rayed images to retrieve with a high degree of accuracy pre-existing images which correspond to similar medical cases. Images similar to a newly imaged image are retrieved from among medical images based on past medical cases. Wavelet features of a plurality of previously imaged and stored images are calculated, and keywords included in radiographic image interpretation information for each stored image are extracted. The newly imaged image is acquired, wavelet features of the acquired image are calculated, and keywords included in the radiographic image interpretation information corresponding to the acquired image are extracted. Similar radiographic image interpretation information is retrieved from stored keywords on the basis of the extracted keywords, and the wavelet-feature based spatial distance between images corresponding to the retrieved radiographic image interpretation information and the acquired image is calculated. Images having a calculated spatial distance that is shorter than a prescribed value are outputted as retrieval results in order of the shortest spatial distance. |
