PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment dispersion and dispersion method of a yellow azo pigment having suitable print density and glossiness when an ink jet recording ink is used.SOLUTION: The pigment dispersion comprises: a colorant including an azo pigment which is an aggregate of a molecule represented by a following formula or a tautomer thereof and has a characteristic X-ray diffraction peak at a specified position in CuKα characteristic X ray diffraction; a water soluble polymer dispersant having at least one carboxy group in one molecule, an acid value of at least 50 mgKOH/g or more and an average molecular weight of 10000 or more and 200000 or less; an antiseptic; and water.
