PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming artificial defects of a heat shielding layer, capable of easily forming a test piece having defects in a topcoat layer.SOLUTION: A method for forming artificial defects of a heat shielding layer comprises: sequentially forming an undercoat layer 12 and a topcoat layer 13 on the surface of a base metal 11; contacting a pressing member 2 to the surface of the topcoat layer 13; and forming cracks 3 in the topcoat layer 13 by applying force through the pressing member 2.
