<p>A display device (10) comprising a transparent display panel (12) for displaying a transparent image, a liquid crystal display (LCD) 14 for displaying an illuminated display image and a beam splitter (16). The display panel (12) is disposed upright at a rear side of a housing (18) while the LCD is disposed horizontally within the housing above an image display area (20), with its screen facing downwards. The beam splitter is located below the LCD at an angle of 45° relative to the LCD. A transparent viewing panel (30) is disposed at a front end of the housing which also houses a microprocessor (32). Images displayed by the display panel (12) and the LCD (14) are aligned such that an image displayed by the LCD reflected by the beam splitter appears to a viewer to be superimposed on the image displayed by the display panel (12). The microprocessor inverts the LCD image so that the LCD image correctly overlies the transparent image.</p> |
