The present invention relates to a kit for detecting heavy metals in mine soil, comprising a Caenorhabditis elegans-derived metallothionein-2 (mtl-2) gene, the base sequence of which is sequence ID no. 1. The present invention also relates to a method for detecting the existence of heavy metals in mine soil, comprising a step of measuring the level of the expression of the mtl-2 gene from Caenorhabditis elegans exposed to a mine soil sample presumed to be contaminated with heavy metals.
