PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source capable of compensating for manufacturing variations in light output of individual segmented LEDs, and a method for making the light source.SOLUTION: On a substrate 51, a first segment 64 and a second segment 65 are formed which are electrically insulated by growing an (n) layer 52, an active layer 55 and a (p) layer 53 and dividing the layers by an isolation trench 66. A serial connection electrode 59 connecting the (n) layer 52 of the first segment 64 and the (p) layer 53 in the second segment 65, a first power supply contact 61 electrically connected to the (p) layer 53 in the first segment 64 and a second power supply contact 62 electrically connected to the (n) layer 52 in the second segment 65 are formed. By dividing the light source into component light sources, a difference in the quantity of light generated by the various component light sources can be compensated and the light source can be operated with a sufficiently higher voltage than conventional LEDs. |
